Tadao Ando, born at Osaka in 1941, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and active architects of our time. As a self-taught architect, he has been at the forefront of a unique architectural style and has been acclaimed as the poet of plain concrete. He established the Tadao Ando Architect Research Institute in 1969, and later received the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1995.
